Ghost of Tsushima
When's it out?
July 17, 2020
What platform?
PS4
What's it about?
We don't know a whole lot about Ghost of Tsushima yet, except that it's an open world action-adventure being developed by Suckerpunk Studios and published by Sony - meaning it'll be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
Ghost of Tsushima is set in 1274 Japan - during the first Mongolian invasion - and sees you take on the role of last samurai on Tsushima Island, determined to defend his home and traditions.
Marvel's Avengers
When's it out?
September 4, 2020
What platform?
Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia
What's it about?
Marvel's Avengers sees you playing as your favorite superhero in an all-new story set in the Marvel universe. Playing as one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, your mission is to save the day from an evil force - just normal superhero stuff.
Officially announced at E3 2019, the game will have a multiplayer component alongside a single-player campaign, though it wasn't shown off during the event. What we've heard from Crystal Dynamics in a closed-door briefing is that you'll assemble into teams of four online, customize your characters and fight online together through new scenarios. Crystal Dynamics says this content will be free and will come at a constant clip.
Check out our hands on: Marvel's Avengers review.
FIFA 21
When's it out?
October 9, 2020
What platform?
PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and PC
What's it about?
EA has confirmed that FIFA 21 is coming in October this year and it will launch on current-generation consoles before coming to the next-generation at a slightly later date.
EA hasn't gone into a great deal of detail when it comes to the nitty gritty of playing FIFA 21 just yet - we're expecting more on that front later this year - but, thanks to EA Play, we've now seen the game in action on next-gen hardware so at the very least we know there are some visual improvements headed our way.
Cyberpunk 2077
When's it out?
November 19, 2020
What platform?
PS4, Xbox One and PC
What's it about?
If you've been living under a rock and don't know about Cyberpunk 2077 then let us enlighten you.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an dystopian RPG from The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red, set in a gritty, science fiction world metropolis. It's based off the pen-and-paper RPG of the same name and promises to be a game-changer when it releases this year – though sadly a few months later than expected.
If that's not enough for you, then the announcement that Keanu Reeves plays a major role in the game should hopefully get you excited.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
When's it out?
December, 2020
What platform?
PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC
What's it about?
Assassin's Creed Valhalla sees players take on the role of Viking raider Eivor, who leads their clan from their native home of Norway to the shores of Dark Ages England – with a hope of settling for good. But resistance from the Saxons won't exactly make it easy.
This new Assassin's Creed game leans more into RPG elements, allowing players to build and manage settlements, raid towns for resources, form alliances and even customize their character.
Watch Dogs: Legion
When's it out?
2020 (delayed from March 6, 2020)
What platform?
PS4, Xbox One and PC
What's it about?
Watch Dogs: Legion seems to see you taking on an organization called Albion who have distributed riot drones all over London to keep people in line. You're a member of the resistance: DeadSec.
What's interesting about Legion is that you play as more than one character (a whole host actually), with permadeath wiping out the one you're playing if you happen to end up on the wrong end of an electric bullet. You can apparently play as anyone - with every Londoner being recruitable and fully simulated.
Halo Infinite
When's it out?
'Holiday' 2020
What platform?
Xbox One and Xbox Series X (maybe PC)
What's it about?
The sixth game in the main Halo series, Microsoft announced at its E3 2019 keynote that Halo Infinite will be a launch title for the next-gen Xbox Series X consoles during Holiday 2020.
While we don't know much about what to expect from Halo Infinite, we do know that Master Chief is back and he looks stunning on next-generation hardware (well, from the trailers).
New Call of Duty
When's it out?
2020
What platform?
TBC but probably PC, Xbox One and PS4 (plus PS5 and Xbox Series X)
What's it about?
As sure as the sun rises, we know that we're going to see a new Call of Duty game every year. Sure enough, Activision recently confirmed that a new "premium" Call of Duty is in the works and due for release in 2020.
While we don’t know much about the new Call of Duty yet, we do know that Black Ops developer Treyarch is working on the game with support from Sledgehammer Games after a development switch up. This year’s game is rumored to be a reboot of the Black Ops franchise similar to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), with the title rumored to be ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
When's it out?
2020
What platform?
PS5
What's it about?
Initially we thought that Spider-Man Miles Morales was a sequel to Insomniac's critically-acclaimed Spider-Man, then it seemed like the game was an expanded remaster of the original game. Now, it's been confirmed that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone title similar to Uncharted: Lost Legacy, acting more like a spin-off than a fully-fledged sequel – a kind of 1.5 iteration sitting in the middle.
Regardless, we're excited. While we don't know too much about the game, you should be able fast-travel across New York almost instantly thanks to the PS5 SSD, while the haptic feedback in the PS5 DualSense controller should enhance the feel of the combat.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
When's it out?
TBC
What platform?
Xbox Series X and PC
What's it about?
Xbox Series X's name and design was officially revealed during the Game Awards 2019. Alongside a look at the next-gen console we also recieved an official announcement that there's another Hellblade on the way - and it's coming to the next Xbox.
We don't know much about what Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 will be about but the announcement trailer, harnessing the Series X's next-gen technology, was extremely impressive - and it's likely the game will make use of Smart Delivery.
Horizon Forbidden West
When's it out?
2021
What platform?
PS5
What's it about?
Aloy returns in another graphically stunning adventure, which will see the future warrior take on robotic dinosaurs across America in the PS5 sequel Horizon Forbidden West. In terms of gameplay, it seems like a similar set-up to the previous game, an open-world epic across glistening beaches and vertigo-inducing mountains. It was easily the most visually-arresting game during the PS5 showcase – perhaps the only game that looked like a true generational leap from what we’ve seen previously on the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
When's it out?
TBC
What platform?
PS5
What's it about?
An all-new Ratchet and Clank game, Rift Apart looks like a Pixar film come to life. A colorful, kid-friendly platform-shooter hybrid, it was perhaps the best example of the PS5’s new SSD storage system. Sequences were shown off where the hapless pair were seemingly beaming from detailed world to detailed sci-fi world in an instant, a feat that old-school storage wouldn’t have been capable of with the level of detail on display.
Breath of the Wild 2
When's it out?
TBC
What platform?
Nintendo Switch
What's it about?
Nintendo has confirmed that a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel is in development, with a trailer suggesting a darker turn for the next mainline Zelda game.
We don't know much about Breath of the Wild 2, but we've got high hopes considering its predecessor was such a critical success. What we do know is that it'll land on Nintendo Switch - the big question is when?
Dragon Age 4
When's it out?
TBC
What platform?
Probably PS4, Xbox One and PC
What's it about?
After being an open secret for so long, Dragon Age 4 has now been confirmed by BioWare and we’ve even been teased by a minute-long trailer. At the moment we’re cautiously calling the game Dragon Age 4 (but this title isn’t confirmed).
It'll no doubt be a couple of years before we see the fourth instalation in the popular RPG franchise Dragon Age, but we're expecting a bigger open-world, further exploration of that cliffhanger and even more characters to swoon over and seduce.
The Elder Scrolls 6
When's it out?
TBC
What platform?
Probably PS4, Xbox One and PC
What's it about?
We've no idea what it's about but we definitely won't see The Elder Scrolls 6 release in 2019 - but it's hard to ignore the behemoth so we're being delusionally optimistic.
Metroid Prime 4
When's it out?
TBC
What platform?
Nintendo Switch
What's it about?
A brand new Metroid Prime game is coming to the Nintendo Switch. However, Metroid Prime 4 may be some way off as Nintendo had to scrap the project back in January 2019 and start again.
Due to development problems, we don't know much about what Metroid Prime 4 will involve, or when we will see it, but we can't help but be excited.
Starfield
When's it out?
TBC
What platform?
Probably PC, PS4 and Xbox One
What's it about?
We don't really know what Starfield is about yet. Bethesda has been pretty tight-lipped about its upcoming single-player RPG. We do know it's set in outer space and that it'll be a while before it's released.
